Panaji: Pramod Sawant has resigned as the Chief Minister of Goa after the assembly election results. Pramod Sawant reached Raj Bhavan and met Governor PS Pillai and submitted his resignation. With this, the path has been paved for the formation of a new government. According to BJP sources, Pramod Sawant will be the new CM of Goa.
BJP sources claim that Devendra Fadnavis has sealed the name of Pramod Sawant. This has also been conveyed to the Bharatiya Janata Party unit of Goa. Sources also say that central observer Piyush Goyal is likely to reach Goa by tonight. However, according to sources, the name of the central observer is yet to be decided, but it is being said that only Union Minister Piyush Goyal can be sent to Goa as the central observer. The formalities of electing Pramod Sawant as the leader of the MLA party will be completed in the meeting.
According to the same sources, after being elected as the leader of the legislature party, Pramod Sawant is likely to meet the governor on March 14 to stake a claim to form the government. In the Goa assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party by winning 20 out of 40 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party fell one seat short of the magic figure of 21 seats required for a majority. The BJP has also got the support of an Independent and three MGP MLAs. With the support of an Independent and three MLAs of the MGP, the BJP is going to form the government.
