Maharashtra is gearing up for its Assembly elections on November 20, with results set to be announced on November 23. The key battle is between two major political alliances: the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The Mahayuti coalition consists of the BJP, the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar. Meanwhile, the MVA brings together the Congress, the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray, and the NCP led by Sharad Pawar.

As election day draws closer, prominent leaders from both alliances have stepped up their campaigning. BJP leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are actively engaging with voters. On the other side, MVA leaders like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray are working hard to sway public opinion.

At a rally in Nandurbar on November 14, 2024, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra, took aim at the ruling Mahayuti government. He accused them of costing Maharashtra five lakh jobs, as numerous projects were moved to Gujarat. Gandhi also criticized Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of disrespecting Tribal leader Birsa Munda and undermining the Constitution.

Responding to Prime Minister Modi’s recent remarks about the "blank Constitution," Rahul Gandhi defended the document, saying, “They claim the Constitution is empty because they’ve never read it. They say I show the red-covered Constitution book, but it’s not the cover that matters—what’s written inside it is what we are protecting.”

As the election campaign heats up, both sides are preparing for a closely contested battle in one of India's wealthiest states.
