New Delhi: The country's star tennis player Leander Paes on Friday took over the reins of the Trinamool Congress. Paes has joined the TMC in the presence of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in Goa. During the event, Mamata Banerjee said that tennis star Leander Paes is like her younger brother. Mamata said, "It is a great pleasure to mention that Leander Paes has joined the TMC. I'm quite happy. He's like my younger brother. I have known him ever since I was a young minister and he was quite young.''
TMC is trying to strengthen its grip in Goa in view of the 2022 assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee arrived in Goa a day earlier on Thursday evening. After which TMC campaigned in the electoral state with the hope of making inroads into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stronghold. Earlier on Friday, actress and activist Nafisa Ali also joined TMC at the same event in Goa.
welcoming her new member Paes through an official Twitter post, TMC said, "We are very happy to inform that Leander joined our party today in the presence of our hon. President Mamata. Together, we will ensure that everyone in this country sees the dawn of democracy that we have been waiting for since 2014.''
