Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, today attacked his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee, saying the Trinamool Congress had no chance of winning elections in Goa. Both regional parties are attempting to go national by contesting state assembly elections in the coming months in places such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa.
While speaking to the press in Goa, Kejriwal stated that everyone is placing too much emphasis on Mamata Banerjee's TMC, which he believes has no chance of winning elections. He said that the TMC now has a 1% vote share and that democracy does not operate in Goa because they arrived only three months ago.
Mamata Banerjee used the 'outsider' card to stoke anti-BJP emotions in the run-up to the 2021 West Bengal state assembly elections, claiming that the TMC and its leaders are Bengalis who must be elected. Interestingly, a West Bengal-based political party used a similar strategy in Goa earlier this month.
Banerjee visited Goa earlier this week and stated that she did not want 'outsiders' to 'rule' the state. Last week, Banerjee stated that the TMC wants the BJP to be defeated in Goa and encouraged everyone to work together to defeat the BJP. She also used her caste card, claiming to be a Brahmin and claiming that she does not want "outsiders to dominate Goa." Banerjee was born and raised in Kolkata, West Bengal, and completed her schooling and further studies there as well.
