Panaji: Polling for the District Panchayat (ZP) elections in Goa has begun from 8 am today. In fact, 203 candidates from 48 constituencies are in the fray in these elections. Let me tell all of you that the voting process is going to continue till 5 o'clock in the evening. For the first time, large scale elections are taking off in the state after the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic. For you information, we should also tell you that in these elections, the BJP has landed 43 candidates, while the Congress has 38 candidates, Aam Aadmi Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party have landed 17-17 candidates. Besides, 79 independent candidates are also in the conflict.

Recently, state BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said, "We are confident of winning these elections. I am visiting the whole of Goa and the BJP is getting good support because of the development projects brought by our Government. Apart from them, leader of the opposition Digambar Kamat said, "Goa is undergoing trouble and our economic situation is very bad. You can see the number of protests in Goa against the government's decisions." They themselves point to the poll results. "At the same time, state election Commissioner Chokha Ram Garg has urged voters to vote."

Let us also tell you that this election was going to be held on 22nd March, but it could not happen because of the coronavirus epidemic. Though there are 50 district panchayat seats in Goa, an uncontested candidate has already been declared victorious. At the same time, a candidate contesting from the Navelim seat in South Goa district was killed due to which the state Election Commission had to cancel the polling in this constituency.
