Goa: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that the state deserves capable leadership and welcoming development ahead of the Goa Assembly elections early next year. During his recent visit to Goa, he posted a three-minute video of his interactions with the locals.
Taking to Twitter handle, Rahul Gandhi wrote: ''Goa deserves capable leadership. Goa deserves cultural conservation. Goa deserves congenial development. Goa deserves Congress. I stand with Goa for a better tomorrow”. Gandhi has advocated for legal mining in his speeches, stating that "the most important thing Goa has is the environment, which must be protected at all costs." "We are pretty clear that we don't want Goa to be a coal hub when it doesn't benefit Goa," he said at one of his events in the state. Gandhi, who launched the Congress' election campaign in Goa on Saturday, stated that the promises made in the party's election manifesto will not only be a commitment, but also a "guarantee," because failing to keep his word would jeopardise his credibility.
He had told fishermen at Velsao beach in South Goa that the Congress would prepare its election manifesto openly and transparently after holding talks with various stakeholders in the state, with an emphasis on environmental protection.
