Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of the Indian state of Goa, won the election from his traditional Sanquelim Assembly seat on Thursday. He said he was sure that the BJP would run the state.
People from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) are in touch with the BJP to help the saffron party get to 21 votes out of 40 to win. Trends show that the BJP was ahead in 19 seats, the Congress was ahead in 11, and the MGP was ahead in three seats each.
After trailing in the first round, Sawant was able to keep the Sanquelim seat by about 1,000 votes. "We'll get more than 20 seats." If there are enough people, there are independents and the MGP, which is in touch with us. Besides that, Sawant said that he was worried about his smaller victory margin and that he was going to think about it.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, Sawant had won by more than 2,000 votes. Following the death of Manohar Parrikar, who was the CM of the state at the time, he took over.
