New Delhi: The Congress party announced its latest list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, revealing 17 contenders for various constituencies across different states. Notably, Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, the state unit chief, has been nominated to represent the party in the Kadapa seat of Andhra Pradesh. The list comprises eight candidates from Odisha, five from Andhra Pradesh, three from Bihar, and one from West Bengal.

In Bihar, where the Congress is part of the grand alliance, candidates have been declared for nine seats. Mohammed Jawed will contest from Kishanganj, Tariq Anwar from Katihar, and Ajeet Sharma from Bhagalpur. In Andhra Pradesh, former education minister M. M. Pallam Raju has been fielded in Kakinada. Meanwhile, in Odisha, former Lok Sabha member Sanjay Bhoi will represent the party in Bargarh, a seat he held from 2009 to 2014. The lone candidate announced for West Bengal is Dr. Munish Tamang from Darjeeling.
The total number of candidates declared by the Congress party has now reached 228, although the suspense remains over high-profile seats like Amethi and Raebareli.
In a separate development, the party released its tenth list of candidates on Monday, unveiling contenders for Maharashtra's Akola seat and Telangana's Warangal seat. This move put an end to speculation about a possible alliance with Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in Maharashtra, as Congress's Abhay Kashinath Patil will contest against him.
The Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place in seven phases starting from April 19, will witness nearly 97 crore eligible voters participating in the democratic process.
