Hemant Soren, the executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), will officially be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on November 28. This follows the victory of his party in the recent state assembly elections.

On Sunday, Soren announced the date for the swearing-in ceremony, saying, "The oath ceremony for the new government is scheduled for November 28."

Prior to this, Soren submitted his resignation as Chief Minister to Governor Santosh Gangwar and officially requested the formation of the next government at the Raj Bhawan. He mentioned, "Today, we have initiated the process to establish the INDIA alliance government. As part of this, we have formally staked our claim to form the government in front of the Governor. I also submitted my resignation... Congress and RJD representatives were present as well," Soren said.

Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay shared that Soren was selected as the leader of the INDIA alliance in Jharkhand. He noted, "All party members and leaders have shown their support, and Hemant Soren was unanimously chosen as the leader of the Jharkhand Assembly. The provisional date for the swearing-in ceremony is set for the 28th."

Under Soren’s guidance, the JMM led the INDIA alliance to a strong win in the 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly, securing a total of 56 seats. The JMM alone won 34 seats, while allies Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML gained 16, 4, and 2 seats respectively.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA alliance secured only 24 seats in the elections. The BJP itself won 21 seats, with its partners—the AJSU Party, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD-U—each winning one seat.

Additionally, the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, a smaller political group, managed to win a seat, with Jairam Kumar Mahato emerging victorious in the Dumri constituency.

The assembly elections in Jharkhand, which took place in two phases on November 13 and November 20, resulted in the JMM-led coalition maintaining its hold on the state government.
