Strike: Doctors in Goa also performed oppose, kept working off

Panaji: Several doctors in Goa boycotted work on Monday and staged a silent demonstration in West Bengal, strongly condemning the attack on some of their colleagues. In this regard, an official has informed that non-essential medical services have been discontinued in various Government and private hospitals in the coastal state of Goa on the call for bandh by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Several doctors participated in the silent demonstration from Azad Maidan to Panjim Bazar in the state. Shekhar Salkar, former head of IMA Goa, who participated in the protest march, said, "Doctors are on strike in the coastal state expressing solidarity with their colleagues over the recent attack in West Bengal."

The striking doctors have demanded deployment of armed security personnel outside all emergency wards in government hospitals. The controversy started in West Bengal where the family members of a patient had fatally assaulted doctors. The doctors had since started the strike demanding safety. The strike has been completed for six days today.
