Panaji: Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satyapal Malik was sworn in as the new Governor of Goa today. He was sworn in as Governor by Pradeep Nangrajod, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court at Raj Bhavan in Goa. Malik, 73, replaced Mridula Sinha, who had been holding the post of Governor of Goa since August 2014. They have been shifted to Goa after Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories.
State leaders including Goa CM Pramod Sawant were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Satyapal Malik. In his address after the oath, Satyapal Malik said that, I have come from Kashmir which is a very problematic place. I have successfully worked there and handled all issues. Jammu and Kashmir is a peaceful and good place, which is now on the path of progress. The leadership here is non-controversial. They are doing their work quite well, so I think I will spend time here in a very peaceful way.
Malik said that the people here are good. CM is talking less, but the name of Goa is worldwide. Prior to this, Satyapal Malik has been working as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The Narendra Modi government's decision to divide Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories and remove most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution from the state was taken on August 5 under his tenure.
