Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday offered a critical analysis of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) slogan, 'Ek hai to safe hai,' explaining that "ek" refers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his close associates, including Amit Shah. He alleged that under their leadership, only industrialist Gautam Adani is safe, while the people of Dharavi are left ignored.
In a press conference held in Mumbai ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 20, 2024, Gandhi made several significant promises. He pledged, “We will remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations,” highlighting this as a key commitment for the Congress party.
Gandhi framed the upcoming election as a “battle of ideologies” between the wealthy elite and the marginalized sections of society. He strongly advocated for a caste census, describing it as the “biggest issue before us” and a “central pillar” of the party's policy platform.
On the controversial Dharavi redevelopment project, Gandhi remarked, "Whatever Adani wants, he gets it," expressing concerns about corporate favoritism under the current government.
He also criticized the decision to transfer mega projects worth Rs 7 lakh crore, such as Foxconn and Airbus, to Gujarat, accusing the BJP of depriving Maharashtra’s youth of crucial job opportunities.
