Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has taken the reins as the new president of Janata Dal (United) following the resignation of Lalan Singh during the party's national executive meeting on Friday. This development was confirmed by KC Tyagi, a prominent figure within the party.

The decision made during the executive meeting is anticipated to be officially approved during the national council meeting later today. Sources reveal that most influential leaders within the party advocated for Kumar to lead the organization, considering his prominence, especially in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It's worth noting that the party is part of the opposition INDIA bloc.

Criticism of Singh's leadership style emerged from various party members during recent interactions with Kumar. Both Kumar and Singh, however, downplayed any significant changes within the party, referring to these meetings as routine.

The relationship between Kumar and Singh spans many years, with Singh serving as a key ally of Kumar, except for a brief period between 2010 and 2013 when he departed from JD(U).

Before departing for the national capital from Patna, the Bihar Chief Minister emphasized that the JD(U)'s two-day meeting in Delhi was a customary affair, dismissing any notions of upheaval within the party.

"Lalan Singh remarked, 'Nitish Kumar is our supreme leader, and JD(U) is unified and will continue to remain so,'" as stated on Thursday.
