Chhattisgarh has achieved a significant milestone by building the world’s tallest bamboo tower in Kathia village, Bemetara district. The impressive structure stands at 140 feet tall and weighs 7,400 kilograms, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 lakh. Designed to resemble the iconic Eiffel Tower, the tower was created by Ganesh Verma, founder of Bhavya Srishti Udyog, a company known for its innovative work with bamboo technology.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, officially inaugurated the bamboo tower on World Bamboo Day On Thursday. During the event, Gadkari praised Bhavya Srishti Udyog for its pioneering research and creative use of bamboo in various applications. He highlighted the tower's lightweight design and durability, with an expected lifespan of at least 25 years.

Gadkari also spoke about the potential uses of the bamboo tower, suggesting it could serve as a watchtower, telecom tower, transmission tower, or radio tower. He applauded the Chhattisgarh-based company for its unique designs and innovative concepts using bamboo and related materials.

In addition, Gadkari encouraged the Chhattisgarh government to develop a policy promoting the use of bamboo, as it could significantly enhance the socio-economic conditions of the region’s tribal communities. He also suggested the creation of new designs in handlooms, handicrafts, and metal crafts that could be effectively marketed. Gadkari proposed establishing a design center focused on producing export-quality bamboo furniture and other products.

Chhattisgarh ranks sixth in India for bamboo cultivation, covering 1.05 million hectares, with a bamboo stock of 16.78 million tonnes—representing 4.2% of India’s total bamboo resources. The state’s primary bamboo-producing districts include Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Raigarh, Durg, and Bastar.
