Google Maps is all set to roll out a major update next month that aims to enhance the urban driving experience. The new feature will provide visual cues for the correct lane to use during upcoming turns, along with important information such as crosswalks, traffic signs, and lane restrictions.

Starting in December, residents of 30 metropolitan areas across the United States will be able to access this upgraded functionality on both Android and iOS devices. This addition is designed to reduce the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads, complementing existing features like lane guidance and 3D route visualization.

Alongside the lane guidance enhancements, Google Maps is also improving its "destination guidance" feature. Users will soon notice improvements that make it easier to find their destinations, including highlighted building entrances and information about nearby parking lots. The app will now provide reminders for where users parked their vehicles and walking directions to building entrances.

To ensure safer travel during adverse weather, Google Maps is expanding its reporting features to include alerts for low visibility, fog, snow, unplowed roads, and flooding. This will help drivers navigate safely in challenging conditions.

In addition, Google is incorporating more artificial intelligence into the app to assist users in discovering new places. Meanwhile, Waze, another navigation app owned by Google, is testing voice-activated incident reporting to deliver real-time updates to drivers.

As Google continues to enhance its mapping services, users can look forward to a more intuitive and informative navigation experience.
