A devastating accident occurred in Uttarakhand's Almora district on Monday morning when a bus carrying over 45 passengers plunged into a gorge near Marchula, resulting in the deaths of 23 individuals, police said.

The bus was en route from the Golikhal area to Ramnagar when the incident took place. Authorities quickly launched relief and rescue operations upon learning of the accident and have initiated an investigation into the crash's cause. Teams from the police, fire department, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on-site, working diligently to evacuate the injured and provide medical attention at nearby healthcare facilities.

High-ranking officials, including the Commissioner and DIG of Kumaon, have arrived at the scene to oversee the ongoing rescue mission. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been in contact with top officials, urging them to expedite rescue efforts.

Expressing his condolences over the tragic loss of life, Dhami shared on social media, "Very sad news has been received about the casualties." He has announced immediate measures, including the potential airlifting of seriously injured passengers and the suspension of local enforcement officials. Additionally, he stated that financial assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased and injured, alongside a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
