On January 9, 2025, Mercedes-Benz launched the much-awaited G-Class Electric, also known as the G580 in India, priced at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). This fully electric version of the iconic G-Wagon, which had previously been showcased as the EQG concept at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, marks a significant step towards sustainable luxury in the SUV market. While maintaining the iconic look, the electric G580 introduces several aerodynamic improvements. With a drag coefficient of 0.44, the EQG is more aerodynamically efficient than its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the G450d.

G-Roar Feature: While the electric G-Class doesn't have the signature roar of the AMG G63’s V8 engine, it compensates with the G-Roar feature. This system mimics the sound of a combustion engine through speakers, with sound intensity adjusting based on the driving mode. In Comfort Mode, the sound is subtle, while in Sport Mode, it mirrors the aggressive sound of the V8.

Unmatched Off-Road Performance: With an approach angle of 32 degrees, a breakover angle of 20.3 degrees, and a departure angle of 30.7 degrees, the G-Class Electric is built for adventure.
