The finalists for the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) have been decided, with Australia and South Africa securing their spots in the highly anticipated clash. Australia will not only defend their title but also mark the first WTC Final to be played at Lord's, from June 11 to June 15, 2025.

India’s Streak Ends

India, who had hoped to appear in the WTC Final for the third consecutive time, missed their chance after losing the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The Australian team, led by Pat Cummins, triumphed with a six-wicket victory in Sydney, securing their place in the final while dashing India’s slim hopes.

Australia’s Path to the Final

Australia secured their spot in the final during the New Year's Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, successfully chasing a fourth-innings target of 162 runs and winning by six wickets. Usman Khawaja’s steady knock of 41 on a challenging pitch, supported by contributions from Travis Head and Beau Webster, played a pivotal role in the win.

The result elevated Australia to 63.73% of possible points, leaving India behind at 50% in the final standings of this WTC cycle.

South Africa’s Strong Finish

South Africa secured their place in the final after a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Pakistan in their Boxing Day Test. Under the leadership of Temba Bavuma, the Proteas clinched the second finalist spot, demonstrating resilience and consistency in the latter stages of the championship.

Historic Venue

This year’s final at Lord’s will add a new chapter to the history of the WTC. The first two editions were held at Southampton (2021) and The Oval (2023), with New Zealand and Australia emerging as champions respectively.

Sri Lanka Out of Contention

Sri Lanka, despite hosting Australia for a two-Test series in Galle early this year, are out of contention for the WTC Final, unable to surpass the points of the two qualified teams.

What to Expect

As Australia prepares to defend their title and South Africa eyes their first WTC crown, cricket fans worldwide eagerly await the showdown at the iconic Lord's. The match promises to be a thrilling contest between two formidable teams, setting the stage for an epic conclusion to the 2025 championship.
