Sangli, Maharashtra: Anil Babar, the MLA representing Khanapur Assembly Constituency in Maharashtra, passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Sangli district. Babar, affiliated with the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction, had been unwell for a few days prior to his demise.
The scheduled Maharashtra cabinet meeting for today stands cancelled due to Babar's sudden passing. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will soon depart for Sangli to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
CM Shinde expressed his grief via his official X account, hailing Babar's contributions to public service. He remarked on Babar's dedication to various social initiatives, including aiding the homeless, organizing blood donation camps, implementing water schemes, and promoting education at the grassroots level.
"Anil Babar was a staunch advocate for farmers in the Khanapur-Atpadi region, tirelessly working to address their concerns. His demise marks the loss of a senior Shiv Sena leader, a trusted colleague, and mentor. My deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace," Shinde's post read.
Babar, who had a longstanding association with Shiv Sena, aligned himself with the Shinde faction following a party split.
