The K-pop wave in India is growing rapidly, with fans across the country embracing their favorite idols. As part of this expanding trend, the K-Wave Festival made a grand return to India, giving K-pop enthusiasts a night to remember. The 2024 K-Wave Festival kicked off at Bayview Lawns in Mumbai, with K-pop stars Hyolyn and EXO's leader Suho headlining the event.
Hyolyn, the talented singer-songwriter, opened the show with a powerful performance. Dressed in a stunning red ensemble, she captivated the audience from the moment she stepped on stage. Hyolyn treated fans to some of her biggest hits, including "Dally" and "See Sea," leaving the crowd mesmerized with her strong vocals and energetic dance moves.
Following Hyolyn's performance, Suho, the lead member of the popular K-pop group EXO, took the stage. He greeted the audience with a warm "Namaste," which was met with loud cheers and applause. Sporting a stylish red tee, black blazer, and jeans, Suho wowed the crowd with his dynamic presence and electric vocals. His performance included fan-favorites such as "Morning Star," "Self-Portrait," and "1 to 3." Suho also performed some of EXO's biggest hits like "Overdose," "Let's Love," and "Made In You," keeping the energy high throughout his hour-long set.
Suho expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from his Indian fans, noting that their energy left a lasting impression. He promised to share his experience with his fellow EXO members and encouraged fans to continue supporting him and his music.
Hyolyn, who debuted in 2010 as part of the girl group SISTAR, continues to shine in her solo career after the group disbanded in 2017. SISTAR was known for hits like "I Like That," "So Cool," and "Shake It." Suho, on the other hand, debuted with EXO in 2012, and the group has delivered chart-toppers such as "Eve," "Tempo," "Love Shot," and "Growl." Suho released his first solo album, "Self-Portrait," in 2020, further solidifying his place as a solo artist.
The Indian K-pop scene has seen a surge in events recently, with artists like The Rose and Eric Nam performing at Lollapalooza India, and Jackson Wang of GOT7 becoming the first K-pop act to perform at Lollapalooza India in 2023. Upcoming K-pop events in India include a fan signing event with GOT7’s BamBam, scheduled for December 15, 2024.
