Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is working towards enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in India by setting up nearly 600 public fast EV charging stations over the next seven years. The company aims to have over 50 stations in operation by the end of 2024, strategically located along highways, in cities, and at dealerships.

To date, HMIL’s existing charging network has successfully facilitated over 50,000 charging sessions, delivering more than 7.3 lakh units of energy to both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users. Additionally, the company has partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 charging stations by 2027. By the end of 2024, ten of these stations will be operational, with three already active in locations such as Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai, as well as Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai.

Supported by the myHyundai app and collaborations with service providers like ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India, the charging network extends across more than 10,000 points nationwide, ensuring convenient travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Jae Wan Ryu, HMIL's Function Head – Corporate Planning, highlighted that concerns over the lack of charging facilities on highways often hinder long-distance EV travel. To address this, HMIL is leveraging Hyundai Motor Corporation's global expertise in EV and battery technology to expand its infrastructure.

The partnership with Tamil Nadu will help provide 100 charging stations by 2027, with 10 ready by the end of 2024. These stations are located in accessible spots like shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants and are equipped with 24x7 CCTV surveillance and on-site assistance.

The company’s fast-charging network will cover key routes, including highways such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur. Major cities like Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai are also part of the expansion plan.

Equipped with DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW chargers, the stations cater to various EV models and charging needs. So far, HMIL has sold over 4,061 EVs, including the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai KONA, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting India's transition to electric mobility.
