Google is reportedly gearing up to launch its Gemini 2.0 AI model in December, coinciding with OpenAI's plans for its flagship AI model release. Meanwhile, other tech giants like Elon Musk's xAI, Anthropic, and Meta are also preparing to unveil their new models soon.

According to a report by The Verge, Google aims for a wide release of Gemini 2.0 in December. However, it appears that this new version may not meet the performance expectations set by Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis. This trend of underwhelming performance is being observed across various companies developing large AI models.

Previously, Google introduced the Gemini 1.0 and Gemini 1.0 Pro language models through Bard AI, which was the original name for Gemini. In February, the company launched Gemini 1.5, which featured an expanded context window. Additionally, during the I/O 2024 event, Google showcased its multimodal AI assistant, Project Astra. While the specific timeline for Gemini 2.0's release remains unconfirmed, Project Astra has demonstrated its ability to answer user queries in real time through text, audio, or video inputs. A demo video showed the assistant effectively conversing with users and responding to questions as they arose.
