Former Minister Saleem Shervani Steps Down as Samajwadi Party National General Secretary Due to Discontent over Rajya Sabha Nominations

Saleem Shervani, a prominent figure in the Samajwadi Party and a former Member of Parliament, has resigned from his position as the party's national general secretary. His resignation stems from dissatisfaction with the party's nominations for the Rajya Sabha.

In a letter addressed to SP president Akhilesh Yadav, Shervani expressed his concerns regarding the neglect faced by the Muslim community within the party. Despite his efforts to advocate for the community's inclusion and representation, particularly in the allocation of Rajya Sabha seats, Shervani noted that the party's recent nominations did not include any Muslim candidates.

Shervani criticized the party's approach to representing marginalized groups, accusing it of failing to prioritize the interests of the socially disadvantaged. He highlighted discrepancies in the distribution of tickets for the Rajya Sabha polls, suggesting that the party's actions contradicted its professed support for the marginalized.

Furthermore, Shervani lamented the lack of cohesion within the opposition alliance, emphasizing the need for a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He suggested that internal disputes among opposition parties were undermining their ability to effectively challenge the BJP's policies.

The resignation of Saleem Shervani adds to the recent challenges faced by the Samajwadi Party, coming shortly before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. His departure follows a series of resignations and expressions of discontent within the party, reflecting growing dissatisfaction among its members.

Shervani, who had previously been associated with the Congress party, rejoined the Samajwadi Party in 2020. His decision to resign underscores broader tensions and divisions within the party leadership.

In addition to Shervani, other party leaders, including Swami Prasad Maurya and Pallavi Patel, have recently either resigned or voiced their grievances. These developments highlight the internal turmoil and challenges confronting the Samajwadi Party ahead of crucial electoral contests.

Kamla Kant Gautam, a Dalit leader within the party, also tendered his resignation as the SP state secretary, citing the lack of meaningful responsibilities associated with his position. These resignations collectively underscore the need for introspection and potential reforms within the Samajwadi Party as it navigates through a period of political uncertainty.
