Ranchi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shehzad Poonawalla took a swipe at Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu after old tweets critical of demonetization went viral during an ongoing raid on properties linked to the Congress MP.

The Income Tax department seized more than Rs 290 crore in the raid that started on Friday, December 6, and was ongoing at the time of writing this report. Sharing Sahu's old posts, Poonawalla wrote, "Oh, now one can understand why Dheeraj Sahu and Congress were opposing demonetisation so much." In his post, he dubbed the Congress as a "corrupt shop" and added, "Corruption Ki Dukan me Beimani Ka Saaman" (a dig at Congress, calling the party corrupt).

Poonawalla also posed a question, asking how much money 52 MPs have if one MP has Rs 500 crore, referring to the Lok Sabha strength of the Congress. He concluded with "Congress = Ghotale ki guarantee" (Congress is equal to a guarantee of corruption).

Cash worth more than Rs 290 crore was recovered from several locations linked to Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu in Odisha and Jharkhand during an Income Tax department raid that began on Friday.

The counting process involved over 30 officers and bank staff initially. To expedite the counting of the seized money, nearly 40 large and small cash-counting machines were deployed by the IT department, along with additional department and bank staffers. Due to the substantial quantity of cash still left for counting, the authorities decided to bring in extra cash-counting machines and manpower to speed up the process.
