NEW DELHI: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has announced the theme for this year's Winter Action Plan as "Milkar chalein aur pradushan se ladein," which translates to "Let's walk together and fight pollution." During a recent press conference, he emphasized the importance of unified efforts from all agencies and governments to effectively combat pollution in the city.
Rai pointed out that rising pollution levels in neighboring NCR states also affect Delhi. He stated, "We also need the Central Government to bring down this level. When all agencies and governments work together, only then can pollution be combated effectively." He reiterated that the Delhi government is committed to implementing the winter action plan with this theme.
Highlighting the progress made in reducing pollution, the minister noted a significant decrease in the number of polluted days in Delhi. He revealed that the city experienced 243 polluted days in 2016, which has now decreased to 159 days in 2023—a reduction of approximately 34.6%. Rai credited this improvement to the collaborative efforts of both the government and the public, as well as increased awareness about pollution.
In conclusion, Gopal Rai emphasized that tackling winter pollution remains a crucial challenge and called for continued cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure cleaner air for Delhi residents.
