The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, introduced a new mobile application to simplify birth and death registrations, allowing citizens to complete the process with ease. Developed by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, the Civil Registration System (CRS) app promises faster and more efficient registration.
This initiative is part of the Digital India vision, aimed at integrating technology with governance. The CRS app enables users to register births and deaths anytime, anywhere, and in their state's official language, making the process both accessible and user-friendly, he said.
In addition to launching the app, Shah unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Janganana Bhawan in New Delhi, the headquarters of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. The unveiling took place just ahead of Patel’s birth anniversary, which falls on October 31. Shah remarked that the statue, symbolizing Patel's dedication to unity and democracy, would serve as an inspiration to all.
Shah also flagged off the annual 'Run for Unity,' typically held on October 31 but celebrated earlier this year due to the Diwali festivities. October 31, known as National Unity Day or 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas,' commemorates Patel's role in uniting over 550 princely states into modern India. The day, observed since 2014, is marked by events that emphasize the importance of national unity and integrity.
The government recently announced a two-year national celebration from 2024 to 2026 to honor Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, highlighting his remarkable contributions to India's unity.
