Lucknow: Lok Sabha member Danish Ali, recently suspended by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for alleged anti-party activities, arrived in Manipur on Sunday to participate in the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. In a series of social media posts, Ali expressed his belief that it was his duty as a politician to join the "biggest drive for unity and justice."
Describing the moment as crucial, Ali stated, “I have arrived here after much soul-searching. I had two options – either to accept the status quo and ignore the exploitation of Dalits, backward classes, tribals, minorities, and other marginalized and poor sections, or to launch an all-out campaign against this atmosphere of fear, hate, exploitation, and the deepening divide in the country.”
Reflecting on his decision, he added, “Taking this decision came naturally to me as I was myself at the receiving end of a similar attack in Parliament, where swear words were used by a member of the ruling party against me and my religion,” referring to BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks in Parliament.
Elaborating on joining the yatra, Ali wrote, “I have realized that the attack on me was part of a larger plan to create an atmosphere of fear and hate in the country.”
Last month, Mayawati-led BSP suspended Danish Ali amid reports of his growing proximity to Congress leaders. Rahul Gandhi visited Ali at his official residence in Delhi to express support following Bidhuri’s derogatory remarks.
Despite the suspension, Ali has not confirmed his entry into the Congress but asserted his commitment to fighting against the BJP. He expressed gratitude to Mayawati for making him a Lok Sabha MP and pledged to continue raising his voice against the exploitation of the country’s resources.
Congress’s Uttar Pradesh chief Ajay Rai criticized Ali's suspension as "unwarranted" and assured support, stating that the party "will do everything to strengthen Ali and all that he stands for."
