The popular messaging app WhatsApp is used by crores of people in India, but in recent times, the platform has been misused to empty the bank accounts of many people. In view of this increasing cyber crime, Gurugram Police has taken strict action against WhatsApp. The police have registered a case against the directors and nodal officers of WhatsApp because they did not provide the required information.

WhatsApp did not give information

According to Gurugram Police, a notice was sent to WhatsApp via e-mail on July 17 during the investigation of a serious matter. The police requested several times to provide the necessary information, but there was no response from WhatsApp. Taking further action in this matter, a case has been registered against the directors and nodal officers of WhatsApp at Cyber Crime East Police Station in Gurugram on Saturday under sections 223 (A), 241, 249 (C) BNS and Information Technology Act.

Violation of legal instructions

Police say that under Indian laws, WhatsApp is obliged to provide necessary legal information. Despite this, WhatsApp management did not provide any information in this serious matter and violated the instructions of the law. In this regard, it has been reported that many new cases of cyber fraud related to WhatsApp and other apps are coming to light. This includes methods of fraud related to finance, jobs etc. Many times people are even digitally arrested.

The government's effort

The government is taking necessary steps to stop such fraud. Cyber criminals often find new ways to cheat people with the help of WhatsApp and other apps, due to which incidents of emptying bank accounts are increasing. Many efforts are being made to make people aware on this subject.

Measures and awareness

People are being advised to be cautious to avoid this type of fraud. WhatsApp users have been suggested not to pay attention to messages and links coming from unknown numbers and avoid sharing personal information. If anyone suspects fraud, contact the police immediately. This action of Gurugram Police has proved that there is a need to deal strictly in the matter of cyber security. This step will also serve to send a message to other platforms that they have to follow the responsibilities for the safety of their users.
