The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Shubham Lonkar in Pune in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. Shubham is the brother of Shubuu Lonkar, who is currently on the run. On Sunday, Shubuu claimed on social media that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is responsible for the murder.
Authorities stated that Shubham Lonkar provided shelter to the suspects previously arrested. The police had earlier taken Gurmail Singh into custody, identifying him as one of the main culprits. Singh will remain in custody until October 21. In addition to Gurmail, 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh was apprehended as another main suspect. Another suspect is still at large, and efforts are ongoing to locate him. The police also arrested Pravin Lonkar, Shubham’s 28-year-old brother, who is implicated in the conspiracy.
Pravin is believed to have collaborated with Shubham to recruit Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam for the plot, as indicated by the Mumbai police. The police have identified a fourth suspect, Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, in the case.
The assailants involved in Baba Siddique's murder were identified by the Mumbai Crime Branch shortly after the NCP politician was shot dead. Authorities suspect that the murder was a premeditated act.
On October 12, 2024, between 9:15 PM and 9:30 PM, Siddique was shot multiple times by three men as he left his office in Bandra (West), Mumbai. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A case has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station, with multiple charges filed under Crime Registration No. 589/2024. These charges include sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act.
