INDORE: In a disturbing event, two army officers were assaulted, and their female companion was gang-raped by armed assailants near a popular picnic spot in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh. The horrifying incident took place on Tuesday evening near Jam Gate.
The victims, currently undergoing training at Mhow Army College, had ventured out with their female friend near the firing range at Chhoti Jam. Around that time, they were suddenly surrounded by a group of eight men, armed with pistols, knives, and sticks. The attackers brutally assaulted the officers, stole their belongings, and took one officer and the woman hostage, demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
After the initial attack, one of the officers managed to escape and rushed back to alert his commanding officer. The military unit immediately informed the police. Dial-100 officers, along with military personnel, arrived at the scene, but the attackers fled upon spotting the approaching vehicles.
The victims were then taken to Mhow Civil Hospital for medical examination early the next morning. Medical reports confirmed that one of the women had been raped, and both officers had sustained injuries during the assault.
Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the case. One of the arrested individuals has a known criminal background. According to police, the attackers initially planned to commit a robbery but resorted to violence, attacking the officers and raping one of the women.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, including those related to robbery, dacoity, rape, and the Arms Act. Indore Rural Superintendent of Police confirmed that a manhunt is underway to track down the remaining suspects.
This horrifying event follows another recent case where a woman was raped on a footpath in Madhya Pradesh, with the assault being recorded by a passerby. Both the accused and the man who recorded the incident were arrested.
