The Ministry of Defence has officially announced the commencement of the 20th edition of the India-USA Joint Military Exercise, Yudh Abhyas 2024. This significant military collaboration is being conducted at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan, from September 9 to 22, 2024. As a testament to the strong defence partnership between the two nations, Exercise Yudh Abhyas has been held annually since 2004, with hosting duties alternating between India and the United States each year. Over the years, this joint exercise has evolved into a critical platform for both nations to strengthen their military cooperation, enhance interoperability, and exchange expertise in counterterrorism, tactical operations, and strategic planning. The 2024 edition further underscores the commitment of both countries to regional and global security.
The 20th edition of the joint military exercise Yudh Abhyas 2024 between India and the United States kicked off on September 9 at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. This 14-day exercise will continue until September 22, aiming to strengthen the cooperation and interoperability between the armed forces of both nations, according to a statement from the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI).
The exercise involves around 600 Indian troops, mainly from the RAJPUT Regiment, along with other supporting personnel. The US contingent is represented by soldiers from the 1-24 Battalion of the 11th Airborne Division, stationed in Alaska.
The main goal of Yudh Abhyas 2024 is to boost joint military capabilities, specifically in counterterrorism operations, simulating real-world scenarios under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will include various tactical drills, joint responses to terrorist attacks, collaborative planning, and field training exercises designed to mirror actual counterterrorism missions.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that this annual exercise, which alternates between India and the United States, has been a key component of military cooperation between the two nations since its inception in 2004.
