New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday said security measures in riot-hit Jahangirpuri are being reviewed and as per the current situation, a decision on further deployment of forces will be taken. Urging for normalcy to return to normalcy in Jahangirpuri's C block, which was the epicenter of the April 16 violence, Hindus and Muslims took out a tricolor yatra here on Sunday and gave a message of peace and harmony.
Delhi Police had deployed a large number of security forces in the area to facilitate the rally. The police had allowed around 50 people from both the communities to take part in the rally. A day after the Tiranga Yatra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Usha Rangnani said that the security arrangements are being reviewed based on the current situation and accordingly we will take a decision and necessary arrangements will be made. At present, adequate and adequate number of security personnel have been deployed in the area, he said. Police said that a large number of security personnel, including anti-riot forces, have been deployed in the violence-hit areas of Jahangirpuri in north-west Delhi.
According to a senior official, more than 500 police personnel and six companies of additional force have been deployed in the area round the clock. A total of 80 tear gas gun parties and water cannons have been deployed, the official said. Drones are also being used for rooftop surveillance in sensitive areas. All senior officers have been directed to remain stationed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident. According to the police, besides Jahangirpuri, adequate force has been deployed in other sensitive areas.
