New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition filed by controversial website AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair. Zubair has challenged his arrest and custodial interrogation in the petition. His lawyer today referred the matter before a vacation bench of the High Court. They were allowed to mention and now the matter will be heard tomorrow.
Let us know that Zubair has been arrested by the Delhi Police due to a tweet made in 2018. He is accused of insulting Hindu gods and goddesses. At the same time, there is a new twist in Zubair's custody. In fact, the user who had made an official complaint tagging the Delhi Police, his handle has disappeared. On June 19, the tweet was made from a Twitter handle called Hanuman Bhakt stating that Zubair's tweet insulted God. In such a situation, he should be arrested.
Based on the man's complaint, the Cyber Crime Unit of the Delhi Police arrested Zubair while Zubair was being interrogated in connection with the 2020 Pocso case. However, the High Court had granted Zubair protection from arrest. Zubair has been booked under sections for promoting enmity and inciting religious sentiments. Zubair has now been sent to four-day police custody.
