NEW DELHI: MSenior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia is scheduled to meet with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday. The meeting is expected to include discussions on the potential successor for the role of Delhi Chief Minister.

The meeting will take place at Kejriwal’s official residence in Civil Lines. This will be the first encounter between the two leaders since Kejriwal’s recent announcement regarding the future of his position.

Kejriwal had previously announced his intention to resign and called for early elections in Delhi. He stated that he would only return as Chief Minister if voters provide him with a "certificate of honesty."

Kejriwal made this announcement following his release on bail from Tihar Jail, where he was held in connection with an alleged graft case related to the Delhi excise policy. He has indicated plans to convene a meeting with AAP MLAs soon to discuss appointing a new Chief Minister from within the party.

Kejriwal and Sisodia had both vowed to serve as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister only if they are deemed honest by the public. Sisodia also recently received bail in the same case.

In light of Kejriwal’s announcement, speculation has arisen regarding his potential replacement, with names such as his wife Sunita, and Delhi ministers Atishi and Gopal Rai coming up as possible candidates.

The term of the Delhi Assembly is set to end on February 23 next year, with elections expected in early February. Kejriwal has framed his resignation as a call for voters to assess his administration’s integrity and to expedite the election process.

He accused the BJP of trying to label him as corrupt and claimed that their leaders' corruption has hindered the delivery of essential services like quality education and free electricity. "We are honest," Kejriwal asserted.

In explaining his decision to party workers, Kejriwal remarked, "You might be wondering why I am resigning after just being released from jail. The BJP alleges that I am corrupt and have betrayed the country. I did not come into politics for power or money but to make a positive impact on the country."
