Dehradun: With incessant rainfall continuing to pour in various parts of Uttarakhand, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding the likelihood of low-lying areas being submerged and hilly regions experiencing landslides, according to an official statement.

"The persistent and heavy rainfall in Koti, Mussoorie Tehsil/Block in Dehradun, and Laksar Block/Tehsil in Haridwar districts may lead to the inundation of low-lying areas and trigger landslides in hilly regions. It is advised that people remain vigilant," read the statement.

Yesterday, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (STRF) carried out rescue operations in the Haridwar district to save individuals stranded in submerged houses in flooded areas. They successfully rescued a pregnant woman and a young girl from Laksar.

Officials reported that upon receiving information about a small girl and a pregnant woman in labor pain trapped in a waterlogged house in Laksar police station, Adarsh Nagar of Haridwar district, the SDRF and state police promptly reached the location.

"Both the young girl and the pregnant woman were carefully transported to a safe place using a raft. They were then taken to the hospital in an ambulance," they stated.

In addition to this, other trapped individuals were also rescued and safely evacuated by rafts to a secure location.

The persistent rainfall and a breach in the Sonali River dam have raised concerns about the possibility of flooding in Laksar town, located in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district.
