Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took aim at the pre-poll alliance between the National Conference (NC) and Congress for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J-K). Speaking on Saturday, Dhami accused the NC of fostering terrorism and 'jihad,' and criticized the Congress for allying with the party, suggesting it reveals the Congress's true intentions.

Dhami condemned the Congress for its alliance with the NC, accusing the party of compromising the security, unity, and integrity of India in its quest for power. He claimed, "The National Conference has continuously pushed Kashmir backwards for three decades. This party promoted separatism and divisive forces in Kashmir. National Conference has nurtured terrorism and jihad; the intentions of Congress have become clear to the public that it wants to throw Kashmir into the fire of violence by allying with them."

He questioned whether Congress supports separatism and talks with Pakistan in exchange for the youth of Kashmir. Dhami also inquired if Congress agrees with the NC's decision to resume trade with Pakistan, which he claimed would boost cross-border terrorism.

The Uttarakhand CM further challenged Congress on its stance regarding the National Conference's agenda, including reintroducing Article 370, promoting separatism, and depriving Dalits, Gujjars, and Pahari communities of reservations. He also questioned if Congress supports the NC's proposal to rename prominent places in Jammu and Kashmir with names of Islamic significance.

The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will take place in three phases: September 18, 25, and October 1, with results announced on October 4. The NC and Congress had previously contested the Lok Sabha elections together, with the NC winning two seats and Congress failing to secure any. A total of 90 assembly constituencies will be contested, marking the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014.
