Kannauj: Villagers in the Sikandarpur area of the Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh were stirred on Monday evening when news of treasure being unearthed in the excavation of a mound spread. The villagers reached the mound, but the bulldozers and truck drivers who were digging earlier fled with the urn. While fleeing, some coins that fell from the urn came into the hands of the villagers, and people started searching for the soil and coins of the mound.
At present, the Department of Archaeology has been informed in this regard and the officers have initiated an inquiry. Police are looking for the bulldozer and truck driver and have also seized the coins found with the villagers. It is not yet clear which metal the coins are made of, but there is talk of gold seals among the villagers.
