The government of Uttar Pradesh is set to establish a new city near Agra..
Here are the key points:
The new city, situated roughly 190 kilometers away from Noida and about 150 kilometers from the Noida airport in Jewar, will cover an area of 10,500 hectares, making it roughly half the size of Noida.
To ensure systematic development, the Yamuna Expressway Authority (YXPA) has sought the assistance of consultants to draft a comprehensive master plan spanning a decade. This plan will encompass various elements including transportation connections with neighboring cities, assessment of environmental impacts, and strategies for sustainable growth.
The primary objective of this endeavor is to prepare for the anticipated increase in population stemming from the imminent Noida International Airport. With the airport expected to commence operations later this year, attracting both domestic and international travelers, there arises a need for supplementary tourism infrastructure in the vicinity. Additionally, due to its proximity to Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal, the airport is poised to become a gateway for tourists visiting one of the world's seven wonders.
The official documentation shared by the YXPA underscores the project's goal of fostering an investment-friendly environment and bolstering economic progress through sustainable development practices. The jurisdiction of the YXPA extends across land along the 165-kilometer expressway, encompassing areas such as Noida, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Aligarh, and Agra. While master plans have been formulated for Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, and Mathura, Agra has thus far lacked such planning. Consequently, the YXPA is in the process of enlisting consultants to devise a tailored plan specifically for the development of the region surrounding the historic city.
Given the significance of the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the environmental impact of the new city is paramount. Shailendra Bhatia, an official at YXPA, has emphasized the promotion of environmentally friendly industries to mitigate pollution risks. Preserving the pristine allure of the monument is imperative, thus stringent measures will be enforced to prohibit polluting activities in its vicinity.
