The IMD explains, "The monsoon trough is aligned along the foothills of the Himalayas. It is anticipated to gradually shift southwards and align with its usual position by August 18."

There is a glimmer of hope as the monsoon trough is projected to pass over Himachal Pradesh on August 18, potentially offering respite from the relentless rains. However, this respite will be short-lived, as the trough is anticipated to reappear in northern states on August 20, triggering further rainfall. This monsoon trough is predicted to bring substantial rainfall to Himachal Pradesh over the next two days and to Uttarakhand over the ensuing five days. The National Capital Region (Delhi NCR) is also bracing for heavy rainfall during this period.
