At the 14th Jaipur International Film Festival, a short film called "Unseen Meghalaya" won the prize for best short documentary film, showcasing the beauty of the state's live root bridges (JIFF)

Canon India produced Unseen Meghalaya - Journey into the Unexplored Living Root Bridges, which was helmed by famous filmmaker Sapan Narula. The live root bridges are part of a historic natural legacy peculiar to North East India's Khasi forests, as seen in this short film.

The short video depicts a close link between nature and Morningstar Khongthaw, a 24-year-old Khasi youth who is working to safeguard and preserve the state's natural heritage. These bridges were once the lifeblood of tribal communities, but modernization, climate change, and neglect have put them in jeopardy.

However, Khongthaw is seen in the short film taking measures to protect and propagate the root bridges. The bridges are said to be sacred relics of their forefathers. In this secluded forest setting, the bridges were built using indigenous techniques that had been passed down through generations.
