Guntur: Andhra Pradesh police made a significant seizure on Monday, confiscating Rs 1.31 crore in unaccounted cash and apprehending three individuals in Anantapur. The authorities suspect that the arrested individuals failed to provide valid documentation for the cash, leading to suspicions of smuggling.

The arrested suspects are Sheikh Qazi Mastan Wali (44), Sheikh Qazi Najimunnisa (36), and Chinnakotla Rashid (31), all residents of Main Bazaar, Tadipatri Town. Tadipatri's Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gangaiah, stated, "Following the completion of legal formalities, including case registration and the arrests, the seized money has been handed over to the Income Tax department."

Acting on a tip-off, the operation commenced, resulting in the apprehension of the trio at Tadipatri bus stand with Rs 1,31,35,750 cash. The lack of evidence supporting lawful possession led to the seizure of the cash, according to Tadipatri DySP.

The arrested individuals were allegedly involved in the purchase of gold from various locations, including Kerala and Maharashtra, and selling it at a premium in Tadipatri, as per the DySP's statement. In addition to the cash seizure, a case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed against the suspects.

Furthermore, searches were conducted at the residence of Sheikh Mastan Wali under the supervision of the Income Tax department to delve deeper into the source and intended use of the confiscated cash.
