New Delhi: Delhi riots accused and former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid has been granted 7-day interim bail to attend his sister's marriage. Umar Khalid has been released from Tihar Jail at 7 am today. According to jail authorities, he has been granted bail for a period of one week from December 23 to 30.

On December 3, Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi were granted relief from a Delhi court. The Karkardooma court acquitted the duo in a Delhi riots case. Both of them were out on bail in this case. But both are in judicial custody in the UAPA case for conspiracy to create riots.

Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020 in connection with the communal riots in Northeast Delhi in February 2020. Along with Sharjeel Imam and some others, Delhi police had registered a case under UAPA and other sections of the IPC, naming Umar Khalid as the main accused.
