KEDARNATH: The government of Uttarakhand has taken bold action in response to allegations of a Rs1.25-billion scam involving the gold plating of the sanctum sanctorum at the temple of Kedarnath.  

Satpal Maharaj, the state's minister of tourism, religion, and culture, has given the secretary of culture and religious affairs, Harichandra Semwal, the order to set up a high-level inquiry commission. Technical experts and goldsmiths will make up the committee, which will be presided over by the Garhwal commissioner, and will conduct a full investigation.

After the project was finished, the donor gave the temple committee the bill and other pertinent papers, according to Maharaj. He further charged opposition groups with "unnecessarily exaggerating the issue" in an effort to obstruct the Chardham Yatra. 

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee previously revealed in a statement that the sanctum sanctorum had 23,777.800 grams of gold, which is currently valued at about Rs. 14.38 crore. Also, 10,01,300 kg of copper plates were utilized for the gilded work, which reportedly cost Rs. 29 lakh.

Santosh Trivedi, the vice president of Chardham Mahapanchayat, and Teerth Purohit of the Kedarnath Temple, however, have made charges in a social media video that brass was used instead of gold for the wall plating, constituting a swindle worth about Rs. 1.25 billion.
