Mumbai: In a heartfelt plea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray called for immediate action to resolve the Maratha quota issue. Thackeray's plea came in the wake of activist Manoj Jarange launching an indefinite fast in Jalna district to draw attention to the Maratha community's demand for reservation.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, had vowed to provide reservation to the Maratha community in a recent speech during his party's Dussehra rally. Thackeray, however, expressed skepticism about these commitments, emphasizing the need for concrete actions over mere words.
Thackeray urged the government to outline a clear path for addressing the Maratha quota protesters' demands and to expedite the resolution of the issue. His message to the Prime Minister was clear: meet with Manoj Jarange, the prominent face of the Maratha quota agitation, and work towards granting reservation to the Maratha community.
Manoj Jarange initiated his hunger strike in his native Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district after the 40-day deadline he had set for the Maharashtra government to address the community's reservation issue expired on October 24. Disheartened by the perceived inaction of the state government in providing reservation to the Maratha community, Jarange made it clear that he could no longer wait.
As the Maratha community's demand for reservation remains a pressing and sensitive issue, Uddhav Thackeray's call for Prime Minister Modi's intervention reflects the urgency and importance of finding a resolution that addresses the concerns and aspirations of the community.
