The Tripura government has re-imposed strict restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection in the state, amid a rise in Omicron cases throughout the nation.

Following the passing of seven directions, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok convened a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat. Masks or face masks must be used in public places, busy areas, marketplaces, all businesses and offices, and when travelling, according to the meeting.

The District Magistrate and Collectors, State Police Services (SPS), Commissioner, and Heads of Departments have the authority to take action if a violation is found. This will be promptly ensured by the Health Department, DM and Collectors, AAI, NF Railway, and BSF. The list of passengers arriving from high-risk countries should be shared with police headquarters and all Superintendents of Police so that police and health teams can closely monitor their required home quarantine.

The conference also resolved that the Health Department will ramp up testing by deploying more teams, with an emphasis on stringent sample testing at entrance points such as airports, all railway stations, and the Churaibari inter-state border.

The committee resolved that "authorities of the BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, CISF, and other paramilitary forces should also guarantee strict compliance with sample testing of those arriving from outside the state." Fines may be imposed on the defaulters for not using masks or maintaining CAB from December 31, 2021.

The fresh restrictions came into force on December 31, 2021, and will continue to be in effect till further orders. So far, Tripura has not reported any Omicron case.
