Agartala: Any creature, whether man or animal, has the fundamental right to survive, and no one has the right to take his life under the guise of any religious tradition or ritual. But animal sacrifice is one such superstitious tradition in which any animal, be it cow, buffalo or goat are sacrificed in the name of rituals. The sacrifice is made with the hope that by offering that animal to the deity, that deity will be pleased and all the wishes of the sacrificer will be fulfilled, but this will not happen now.

The Tripura High Court has banned the sacrifice of animals or birds in all temples of the state on Friday. A bench of High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh gave the order while hearing a PIL. The order states, "No one, including the state, will be allowed to sacrifice animal/bird in the premises of any temple within the state."

The Bench has issued an order to all the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to ensure adherence to this order. The court has also issued instructions to the Chief Secretary of the state to install CCTV cameras immediately in two major temples - Devi Tripureswari Temple and Chaturdas Devta Temple. Because in both these temples a large number of animals are sacrificed.
