Agartala: The fever caused by pig African swine fever (ASF) is spreading rapidly in the northeastern states. After the outbreak in Mizoram, the disease has now hit Tripura as well. Cases of ASF in livestock have been detected in the government breeding farm run by the Department of Animal Resource Development (ARDD) at Devipur in the Sipahijala district of Tripura. In view of the situation, the government has ordered the killing of a large number of pigs.
According to the report, as soon as they came to know about the disease, the team of Agartala Disease Testing Centre visited the farm suffering from this disease. In addition, rapid response teams have been formed to prevent the further spread of the disease. An official of the disease testing laboratory run by the animal husbandry department said that three samples were sent for testing on April 7, 2022, of which all samples have been found positive after the report came on April 13. Apart from this, the symptoms of this disease have also been found in the pigs living in the fields.
Experts say that in order to prevent this disease, after killing the pigs on a large scale in the first phase, the team has dug pits of 8-8 feet to bury them. The attempt is that at the initial stage, all the pigs within a radius of one square kilometre will be killed and buried to prevent the spread of the disease. So that it can be stopped within the perimeter of the farm.
