Dehradun: In a tragic incident, a bus carrying baraatis going from Laldhang in Haridwar to Kanda Talla village in Bironkhal (Pauri) fell into a deep gorge near Simri. 25 people died in the bus accident, while 21 injured persons have been admitted to the hospital. Due to the very critical condition of some injured persons, the death toll may increase further.

Dharmendra Upadhyay, the driver of the groom's car, who witnessed the entire horrific scene, shuddered as he referred to the sequence of events. The driver said that he did not even understand how the bus fell, in just a few seconds everything was over.
On Tuesday, Dharmendra Upadhyay, a taxi driver by profession, who lives in a Laal Dhang, left with the groom, his sister, his sister-in-law and pandit in his car. Behind his car was a bus full of baraatis. According to Dharmendra, as soon as he reached about one km before Kanda Talla village, a snake suddenly came in front of his car. In a bid to save the snake, he applied the brakes of the car. Here, the driver of the bus coming behind overtook the bus due to braking and went ahead. Dharmendra Upadhyay said that within a few seconds, the bus went 500 meters ahead and fell into a deep gorge below. Seeing this, along with him in the car, the groom, his sister, sister-in-law and pandit got shocked. He also immediately got out of the car and looked down but nothing was visible below. The sounds of screams were breaking the silence. Relief and rescue teams have once again started rescue work in the early hours after the bus accident of baraatis in Simdi village of Bironkhal in the Dhumakot area. However, by late last night, rescue teams had rescued 21 persons and rushed them to the hospital and 25 people have died.
