KANNUR: In the realm of transportation, trains have played a pivotal role in connecting communities, facilitating trade, and ensuring efficient travel for centuries. Often celebrated for their reliability and safety, these massive machines have occasionally faced catastrophic incidents that leave lasting impressions on both the industry and society as a whole.
One such unforgettable event occurred when a, a parked train was set ablaze in Kannur railway station in the wee hours on Thursday. The incident came to notice around 1.25 am. Fire broke out in a general coach of Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express No 16306.
After being informed by the station master and officials on duty, the fire brigade deployed the spot and doused the fire at 2.20 am. As the other coaches were separated immediately, the fire did not spread to other parts of the train. The express was scheduled to depart at 5.10 am.
According to reports, one bogie of the express has been completely gutted in the fire. The railway police have expressed suspicion over the incident.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the train, ahead of the incident, shows an unidentified person entering the express. Following this, fire broke out inside the train. The visuals were captured in the surveillance camera of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
