The Tripura government has agreed to instal a genome sequencing equipment in the state to prevent the spread of Omicron, a new form of the Covid-19. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb chaired a vital review meeting to assess the situation, according to Tripura Cabinet Spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury, who spoke to reporters in Agartala on Friday.

"We convened a review meeting after obtaining the new directives from the Centre. There's no need to be concerned because there hasn't been a single incidence of Omicron in the state," he said. According to him, 69 people came from other countries, and 33 of them had swab samples taken. Fortunately, 31 tests came back negative, and two cases were still being examined.

"The RT-PCR test was done during COVID-19." We also need to perform the genome sequencing test for Omicron. We currently lack the necessary equipment and must rely on the Biological and Molecular Studies Institute in West Bengal to conduct the test." The government will place the machine at the GB Pant Hospital for the genome sequencing test, according to the minister.

"We'd want to appeal to each and every person of the state to obey the guidelines. We can defeat Omicron since our infrastructure is sufficient. Strict safeguards will be implemented, and any undue crowding will be prevented," said Chowdhury.
